Liberty Schools Robotics Team Advances to VEX World Competition
Liberty Local Schools is proud to announce that one of its middle school robotics teams has earned an invitation to compete at the prestigious VEX Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, taking place April 28–30.
The team, made up of four dedicated eighth-grade students and known as “Attack of the Sentinels” (Team 91445E), has demonstrated outstanding performance throughout the season in the VEX IQ Robotics Competition. Competing in this year’s game, “Mix and Match,” students were challenged to design, build, and program a robot capable of completing complex tasks with precision and efficiency.
Through months of hard work, collaboration, and problem-solving, the team continuously refined their robot’s design and programming. They also documented their progress in a detailed engineering notebook and presented their work to judges during team interviews—key components of the competition that highlight both technical skill and communication.
Their efforts have resulted in an impressive list of accomplishments:
Ranked #1 in Ohio in the Skills Competition by a margin of 95 points
Placed 2nd in Ohio in the Teamwork Challenge
Earned the prestigious “Think Award” for top autonomous programming in the state
Qualified for states at every competition this season
“I'm incredibly proud of the time, effort, and dedication this team has put in all season,” said Coach Jacob Mellinger. “They’ve spent countless hours designing, testing, and improving their robot, and their growth as problem-solvers and teammates has been just as impressive as their success in competition. This opportunity to compete on the world stage is a direct reflection of their hard work.”

Beyond the awards, the students have developed valuable real-world skills, including teamwork, critical thinking, and perseverance—qualities that will benefit them far beyond the classroom.
The VEX Robotics World Championship is the largest robotics competition in the world, bringing together top teams from across the globe. Liberty Local Schools is honored to have its students represent the district and community on this international stage.
The event will be streamed live, and supporters can follow Team 91445E, “Attack of the Sentinels,” as they compete against the best teams in the world.
