Liberty 5th and 6th Grade Student Council Leads Successful Food Drive for Local Pantry
Liberty’s 5th and 6th grade Student Council recently demonstrated the power of service and community by organizing a food drive to support the Liberty Food Pantry at Church Hill United Methodist Church.
Thanks to the generosity of teachers, students, and community members, the drive collected an impressive 3,078 food items from the elementary building. This total reflects donations gathered at the school and does not fully capture the additional support from parents and other community members who dropped off items throughout the drive.
Several classrooms went above and beyond in their efforts. Ms. Perry’s class led the way for grades 3–6 with an outstanding 511 items donated, while Mrs. Klanica’s class was the top contributor in grades PreK–2, collecting 242 items.
Student Council Co-Advisor Cyndi Marinoff expressed pride in the students’ efforts. “We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to everyone who donated,” Marinoff said. “These donations will truly make a difference for families in our community.”
Co-Advisor Marla Dull added, “It’s inspiring to see our students take such an active role in helping others. This food drive not only supports the pantry but also teaches valuable lessons about compassion and community service.”
Sharon Wathen of Church Hill United Methodist Church also expressed appreciation for the partnership with Liberty Schools. “We are always grateful for donations so we don’t have to purchase them,” Wathen said. “What we really enjoy is the connection with the school. There are Liberty families who come here, and it’s a great bridge to the community. We serve about 90 families each month, so this food reaches hundreds of people.”
The Liberty Student Council is proud to support the Liberty Food Pantry and thankful for the continued generosity of teachers, students, families, and community members.
