Liberty Local Schools is proud to celebrate Mrs. Land, who was recently honored with the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award—a recognition given to educators or teams from each of Ohio’s 16 State Support Teams (SSTs) who have made extraordinary contributions to the education of students with disabilities.
This annual award honors the legacy of Dr. Franklin B. Walter, Ohio’s longest-serving Superintendent of Public Instruction, who led from 1977 to 1991. Over his more than 50-year career as a teacher and administrator, Dr. Walter played a vital role in shaping many of the state’s most impactful educational initiatives—including the development of the nation’s first statewide plan for children with disabilities.
Each SST across Ohio selects a deserving recipient, and this year, State Support Team 5 (SST5) came to Liberty to surprise Mrs. Land with the award, recognizing her deep commitment to inclusive education and student success.
Jessica Kohler, Liberty Local Schools’ Special Education Supervisor, nominated Mrs. Land for the award and praised her dedication, saying:
“Her commitment to going above and beyond in teaching, inspiring, and supporting students. Watching her demonstrate deep knowledge of individual students' needs, use creative and effective teaching methods, as well as fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment has been so inspiring to watch!”
This well-deserved recognition reflects Mrs. Land’s passion for education and her unwavering support of all students, especially those with disabilities.
Congratulations, Mrs. Land, and thank you for the difference you make every day in the lives of Liberty’s students!
