Families of Kindergarten students:

Ohio’s rules for kindergarten admission are undergoing a significant change. Most recently, eligibility hinged on whether a child turned five by September 30 of the current school year. Moving forward, admission is based directly on a child’s age as of the first day of instruction.

Under the updated statute, each school district board of education must admit to kindergarten any student who is five years old, or six years old if the student has not yet completed first grade, by the first instructional day of the school year.
