Bus Rules

Students must:

O.R.C. 3301-83-08 

  • Arrive at the bus stop five (5) minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.  (Bus times may vary due to unforeseen circumstances.)

  • Wait in the designated place of safety which is a location clear of traffic and 10 feet away from the bus stop.  Do not leave area until bus comes to a complete stop and red lights are activated.

  • Go directly to your assigned seat so the bus may safely resume motion.

  • Remain seated keeping aisles and exits clear.

  • Observe classroom conduct and obey the driver promptly and respectfully.

  • Students must not use profane language.

  • Not eat or drink on the bus.  (Doctors written statement is required for medical reasons.)

  • Not use or have in their possession tobacco or lighters.

  • Not have alcohol or drugs in their possession.

  • Not throw or pass objects on, from or into the bus.

  • Carry on the bus only objects that can be held in their laps.  (Large band instruments, classroom projects and poles must be transported by private vehicles.)

  • Animals, firearms, ammunition, weapons, explosives or other dangerous materials or objects are prohibited on school buses.

  • Leave or board the bus at assigned locations unless they have parental and administrative authorization to do otherwise.

  • Not put head or arms out of the bus windows.

  • Be completely quiet at all railroad crossings and other places as requested by driver.

  • Upon exiting the bus, go to your designated area of safety and stay there until the bus leaves.

  • Rules for crossing the roadway:

    • Look at the driver and wait for the driver’s signal to cross.  (Driver will drop their hand.)

    • If exiting the bus, take 10 steps past the front of the bus so you can see the driver in the windshield.

    • Upon reaching the side of the bus, look both ways yourself to ensure traffic has stopped before proceeding on across.

    • If the driver honks the horn, look around for danger and if you see nothing, look back at the driver for further instructions.

    • Go to your designated area of safety and stay there until the bus has pulled away.

Students violating the rules may receive a written incident report.  Depending upon the severity of the violation, the driver may give a verbal warning before proceeding to a written incident report.  The report will be referred to the appropriate building principal. Depending on the severity of the situation, consequences may change at the discretion of the building principals.
