Second grade students design and race sailboats

Sailboat

This week, some of our second grade students tested their math and science skills by building and racing sailboats.  Teachers Carla Collins, Katie Cvengros and Lindsay Thomas split students into groups.  They they worked over several days to engineer sailboats with certain measurement specifications using materials from a MakerSpace.  The goal was to design a sailboat that could float, but also be pushed forward by wind energy during sailboat races.

Top finisher include Dominic Trimacco and David Townsend (first place), Brennan Storey and Jayden Lynn (second place) and Kay Cameron and Madison Catalina (third place).
